What surgery for genitofemoral nerve entrapment?

Stuck in the Middle Ages asked:

I had hernia surgery eight months ago and have had chronic testicular and thigh pain since then. I’ve completed all conservative treatment efforts. A recent nerve block appears to indicate that the problem (which causes both shooting thigh pain and testicular pain/sensitivity) lies in the genitofemoral nerve.

On the internet, there appear to be a few different approaches to dealing with problems with a specific nerve.

What type of surgery would you suggest? I live in the Washington DC area (not far from Baltimore either), so I’m pretty sure that every type of surgeon is within about 30 miles of me. For starters, there’s Georgetown and George Washington in DC and the Dellon Institute in Baltimore.

But I have no idea what the best approach is. (Cryoablation instead? Micronerve surgery? Cutting one nerve? Cutting all three nerves in the area? Something else?) Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I am having gynecamstia surgery next month and i am happy and nervous at the same time. I have lived 25 years of my life with “female breasts” as it is defined and I am finally getting the surgery to get rid of them. I dont know what to expect, both physically and emotionally after the surgery. If anyone has had this surgery could you please let me know what to expect. Thank you

I just had a torsion of the testicle surgery (Monday Nov 24) and wanted to know when I’d be able to start going back to the gym? Both my testicles are still in place (only now they are stitched on so they don’t twist again).

I usually run really fast (5.5 miles in 30 minutes) and also lift weights.

Thanks.

Before I start, I’ll let you know that I fully intend to call the doctor if this doesn’t change(you’ll know what I’m talking about in a second..)

Firstly, I’m a professional wrestler on the independent scene, so when do you think it’s safe for me to step back in the ring? I’m booked up in December so I’m hoping to be good to go by then. Now I know you guys aren’t medical professionals, but it never hurts to have the opinion of others. And after I had got out of surgery, I asked the doctor when I’d be able to come back and it seemed like he didn’t know what professional wrestling was, which concerned me and I’m hoping to get some better clearance the next time I talk to him, which will be sometime this week. Now he did tell me I should be able to resume doing normal activities within 2 weeks, but if you’ve seen a pro wrestling match live you’ll know it’s not just an every day activity lol. Obviously more than 2 weeks have passed, so I am able to do normal stuff.. I just hope I can return to pro wrestling by early December.

Secondly, I have a very small bump just under the 2nd incision that’s below my belly button. Like I said, it’s a small bump and you don’t know it’s there until you rub your finger across it, but you’d notice it anyway because the area is a little red. What’s weird to me is it doesn’t hurt, but I’m still very concerned that it could turn into something serious. The last thing I want is to have to go back into surgery, should this be an incisional hernia. Like I said before, I know most of you aren’t medical professionals but I always appreciate the opinion of others. Thank you.

My sons father and grandmother planned a trip from where they live in Texas to Pennsylvania. Now they can always reschedule for another time but he misses him. But this morning he had to get his appendix taken out because it was about to rupture. So today is saturday and he had surgery. Would he be ok to fly that 4 hour flight next saturday? He’s gonna be in the hospital for 3 nights then go home. I don’t see why he couldn’t I mean it’s gonna be a a mini vacation for him. He wont be doing much of anything. I mean he’s a tough guy and I think he would tough it out but is it safe????

Frank asked:

I had my appendix taken out at 8 am Sunday morning. I’m currently on lortab and naproxen. I’m currently drinking a white russian to kick the lortab up a notch and add to the euphoric effect since i kinda feel horrible. I’m a pharmacy tech, so i understand the dangers of mixing alcohol with medications and am not overdoing it. I do not, however, know about how the alcohol affects the inner wounds. It was done laroscopically if that helps. Will the alcohol hurt me as far as the surgical wounds are concerned?

There is nose surgry, cheek surgery, eyelid surgery and other. These are small part of the face. When you have a surgery on them it doesn’t really make you look good. It makes you better but I’m looking for something that can change your overall face shape to make it look better and attractive.

It has been a week since I had my vermiform appendix removed through surgery. So, would it be okay to remove it now or may I catch some infection?
